GlenAllachie 17 Year Old is a single malt from the Masters of Wood series, finished in Mizunara and Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and without chill-filtration.
Master Distiller Billy Walker combined Mizunara barrels with Oloroso puncheons and hogsheads. Mizunara is a Japanese oak that is seldom used for maturing whisky because of its high cost and tendency to leak.
The nose offers heather honey, dried orange peel, crystallised ginger, cocoa, toasted tobacco leaf and fresh vanilla pod. The palate brings baking spices, dried blood orange, grilled honeycomb, cocoa, poached cinnamon apples, fig syrup, pecans and demerara sugar.
