GlenAllachie – 4 Year Old Future Edition, 50th Anniversary (70cl, 60.2%)

GlenAllachie 4 Year Old Future Edition closes the series marking Billy Walker's fiftieth anniversary in whisky. It is the distillery's first peated whisky, in a 70cl bottle at 60.2% ABV, with 10,000 bottles released. It is also the first bottling made under Walker, reflecting his changes to production: output cut by 80% and fermentation extended to 160 hours, for an ester-rich spirit with a thicker palate. The barley was malted with continental peat from St. Fergus and kiln-dried to 80ppm, giving a softer smoke than coastal peat. It is described as smoking oak, cinnamon apples and chocolate-coated hazelnuts, with puffs of earthy peat smoke.
