Meikle Tòir The Original is a five-year-old heavily peated single malt from GlenAllachie in Speyside, bottled at 50% without chill-filtration or added colour, in a 70cl bottle.
It was matured in first-fill bourbon barrels, virgin American oak and rye barrels that previously held rye whiskey. The peat comes from St. Fergus, and the spirit has a phenol level of 35ppm. The fermentation was extended to 160 hours.
The nose brings baking spices, burnt honey and roasted coffee beans, with hazelnuts, smoked almonds and butterscotch. On the palate, soft sweet peat smoke sits with chocolate and heather honey, then cinnamon and ginger. The long finish keeps dark espresso and honey sweetness, with a gentle smoky note at the end.
