GlenAllachie – Meikle Tòir The Original (70cl, 50%)

A peated single malt from The GlenAllachie Distillery in Speyside, bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle. Meikle Tòir means 'big pursuit', and this is the original release in the series from Master Distiller Billy Walker and his team. The peat is mainland peat from St. Fergus, which gives a sweeter contribution than coastal peat would. Fermentation runs for 160 hours, and the whisky is aged in first-fill Bourbon barrels, American virgin oak casks and Rye barrels. It is natural colour and non-chill filtered. The nose brings baking spices, burnt honey and roasted coffee beans, then hazelnuts, smoked almonds and butterscotch. On the palate are wisps of sweet peat, chocolate and heather honey, then cinnamon, ginger and oak-smoked sugar.
