Glendalough – 7 Year Old Mizunara Finish (70cl, 46%)

Glendalough 7 Year Old Mizunara Finish is a single malt Irish whiskey from Glendalough Distillery in County Wicklow. It is finished in Mizunara oak casks from Hokkaido, Japan, and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. Glendalough describes itself as the first Irish whiskey distillery to use Mizunara oak. The wood is porous and difficult to cooper, and the whiskey takes on dark chocolate orange, sandalwood and cinnamon from it, alongside vanilla, fudge and honey from the bourbon cask. The nose is fruity and floral. The palate is fresh and citrussy, with orchard fruit, biscuity malt and a smooth mouthfeel. The finish is very long, with toasted oak, spice and dark chocolate.
