Hakushu 18 Year Old is a lightly peated single malt from Yamanashi in Japan, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. After eighteen years the distillery's green character of herbs and smoke remains, joined by deeper fruit and florals. It stays free of heaviness and is not dominated by oak.
The nose offers ripe pear, dried mint and oregano with soft smoke underneath. On the palate come jasmine, mango and quince, with menthol, herbs and well integrated peat. The finish is long, with fine smoke, mature fruit and a subtle herbal bitterness.
