Hakushu 18 Year Old is a Japanese single malt from Suntory's Hakushu Distillery in Yamanashi Prefecture, bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. The distillery was established in 1973 and sits at 700 metres in the Southern Japanese Alps, drawing on soft alpine spring water.
A lightly peated malt component gives Hakushu its herbal smoke, and here it is matured for 18 years.
The nose is ripe pear, dried mint and oregano with a hint of smoke. Jasmine, mango, quince and menthol follow on the palate, and the finish is long and smoky with a subtle mineral bitterness.
