Hakushu 18 Years Old is a Japanese single malt from the Hakushu distillery in Yamanashi, in a 70cl bottle at 43%. The distillery was built in 1973 at the foot of Mount Kaikomagatake, surrounded by forest.
Peated malt is used, and the whisky matures in warehouses among the trees.
The nose has orange peel, ripe pear and dry smoke, with a fresh fruit-salad note. The palate is delicately sweet, in the manner of a French pastry, with rich baked notes. The finish is long and fruity, with manuka honey and a faint smokiness.
