This is the 13th annual release of A Midwinter Night's Dram, the port-finished rye series from High West of Park City, Utah. It is a limited-edition blend of straight rye whiskeys aged between 4 and 10 years.
The blend is finished in ruby and tawny port barrels and bottled at 49.3% ABV, non-chill filtered. It is built on two mash bills, a 95% rye from MGP and an 80% rye and 20% malted rye from High West's own stills. Act 13 leans towards the red fruit of the ruby port.
The nose brings crushed blackberries, mandarin zest, almond shortbread, fig jam and baking spice. The palate has marionberry preserves, chocolate-dipped cherries, rye bread, mochaccino, cinnamon bark and oolong tea. The finish is velvety, with chai foam and clove-studded orange.
