This is the 2023 release of Highland Park 21 Year Old, made on Orkney, where the distillery has produced whisky at its Kirkwall site since 1798. It is drawn from 36 hand-selected casks filled between 1998 and 2001: ex-bourbon hogsheads, first-fill sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, and ex-Rioja casks.
The house style comes from the distillery's own floor maltings, with lightly peated malt dried using Orcadian heather. The tasting notes list tropical fruits, toasted almonds, fresh nutmeg and floral peat smoke, with lemon zest, fenugreek, apples caramelised in honey, cedar-smoked paprika and a hint of citrus oil.
