This is a 40 year old Highland Park from Orkney, issued as the Spring 2019 Release in a run of 1,684 bottles. It is bottled at 43.2% in a 70cl bottle.
It began in five refill casks of whisky filled before 1979. In 2008 these were vatted and moved into first-fill American oak casks that had held sherry, where the whisky matured for a further ten years.
The nose combines honeyed fruit with a savoury, earthy note of charcuterie, alongside pickled peaches, mint, Sauternes and mead. The palate brings berry fruit, dark chocolate, orange peel, nutmeg and peat smoke. Dried fruit and aged sweet wines linger in a finish that is not exceptionally long.
