Saint Magnus is a 12 year old Highland Park single malt, bottled at 55% in a 700ml bottle. It was distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2010, in a run of 11,994 bottles. It is the second part of the Inga Saga trilogy, a tribute to the Orkney legend of Magnus and Haakon that began with Earl Magnus. The whisky matured mainly in Spanish sherry oak, with 20% in first fill casks. The brown bottle is handmade, and its label is modelled on that of a 150 year old Highland Park bottle. The nose is smoky, with grilled spare ribs in honey sauce, cherry, flint, liquorice, leather and spicy oak. The palate has cinnamon, nutmeg and tarry smoke, turning earthy with marzipan and bitter orange when water is added. The finish is long, with pepper, ginger and clearer peat.
