Belle of Bedford is a straight rye whiskey aged six years, bottled at 52% ABV in a 75cl bottle without chill filtration. It comes from the Hughes brand, revived by Cyrus Kehyari, great-great grandson of the founders of the Hughes Brothers' Distillery in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
The whiskey was distilled at MGP in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from 95% rye and 5% malted barley, then matured in char #4 new American oak barrels. It was proofed with Allegheny Mountain spring water from the original family estate.
The nose offers creamy vanilla, butterscotch, dill and star anise. On the palate come brown sugar, rye spice and roasted coffee, and the finish is long and spicy, with charred oak and a little light smoke.
