Isle of Raasay Core Release Batch R-01.2 is a Hebridean single malt, bottled at 46.4% in a 70cl bottle. It is made from both peated and unpeated spirit, matured separately on the Raasay coast in three cask types: first fill rye whiskey casks, virgin chinkapin oak casks and first fill Bordeaux red wine casks.
The spirit is fermented for up to 118 hours, which together with mineral-rich Raasay water gives a sweet blackberry character before the spirit meets a cask.
The nose combines sweetness with wood smoke on sea air, plus dried and ripe apricots and glace cherries. The palate brings sweet spices, black pepper, blackcurrant and heather, and the finish is long and dry, with a touch of salt and soft wood smoke.
