The Chinkapin is a single malt from the Isle of Raasay distillery, bottled by the distillery at 50.2% ABV in a 70cl bottle. It is natural colour and non-chill-filtered.
It is built around chinkapin oak, a rare wood. Lightly peated and unpeated Raasay spirit were matured separately in fresh and refill chinkapin oak casks.
The nose combines gentle wood smoke with prunes, raisins and black cherries, plus ripe citrus, toasted oak and spicy maple syrup. On the palate come smoked ham, honey sauce and creamy caramel, then roasted notes, sweet cinnamon and fresh citrus. The finish is lingering, with aromatic smoke, barbecue spice, a little oak and caramelised sugar.
