J. Henry Bellefontaine Reserve is a Wisconsin straight bourbon bottled at 51.5% ABV (103 proof). J. Henry & Sons make it from an heirloom strain of red corn grown on their family farm in Dane, Wisconsin.
A five-year-old straight bourbon is finished in V.S.O.P. Cognac casks, which bring fruit and floral notes to the sweet, earthy character of the red corn spirit.
The nose offers ripe apricot, dark plum, vanilla bean, floral honey and toasted oak. The palate has sweet pastry, caramel and stewed dark fruit, with baking spices and roasted nuts. The finish is long, with Cognac, soft oak and vanilla.
