James E. Pepper 1776 Straight Rye is a Kentucky rye whiskey bottled at 46% ABV. Its mash is 90% rye, and it has a soft texture.
The Pepper family launched the brand during the American Revolution and continued making whiskey until 1961. Amir Peay revived the name in 2008, and a distillery was reborn in Lexington in 2017, honouring the Pepper line.
