John J. Bowman Single Barrel is a Virginia bourbon from the A. Smith Bowman distillery, bottled at 50% ABV in a 75cl bottle. Each bottle comes from a single barrel of new charred American oak, after nine to ten years of maturation.
The spirit is distilled twice at Buffalo Trace in Kentucky, then given a third distillation in a copper pot still in Virginia. It was named World's Best Bourbon at the 2017 World Whiskies Awards.
The nose is caramel and vanilla with baked apple, honey and oak, and baking chocolate and warm bread on a second nosing. The palate is sweet toffee, cinnamon and dark cherry, then roasted nuts, figs, clove and black pepper. The finish is medium-long, with oak tannins, dried fruit and a hint of liquorice.
