Kilchoman – Casado Limited Edition 2022 (70cl, 46%)

This is a limited Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle at 46% ABV. Casado is Portuguese for wedding, and the name refers to how it was made. The whisky spent six years in fresh bourbon barrels. Thirty-eight casks were then chosen and married for two years in two 6,000-litre Portuguese red wine casks, charred to levels 2 and 3. The idea came from Kilchoman's founder, Anthony Wills. The nose combines bonfire smoke with peach, plum, cherry, marzipan and maritime notes. On the palate come pepper, salt, peat smoke, apricot and lemon. The finish is long and spicy, with stewed fruit and lasting sweetness.
