Kujira Ryukyu is a 12 year old Japanese whisky finished in sherry casks, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The brand takes its name from the whale, regarded as a guardian symbol of the Okinawa islands. The sherry influence leads the aroma, alongside molasses and corn syrup. The palate is dry with a hint of sweetness and a fruity tartness that recalls balsamic vinegar. The finish is long, starting bitter before a lasting touch of sweetness comes through. The sourness is described as sitting comfortably with the finish, leaving the whisky neither too dry nor too sweet.
