This Lagavulin 12 Year Old comes from Diageo's 2021 Special Releases, where the expression appears regularly. It matured for twelve years in refill American oak casks and was bottled at 56.5% ABV. The theme that year was 'Legends Untold', and the label shows a lion with a flaming mane.
The nose has restrained, maritime smoke, with distant bonfires, lime and a little hint of bacon Frazzles. On the palate are black pepper, salt and wood smoke, some wood tannin, then sweeter toffee. The finish returns to black pepper, smoke and salt, with the citrus coming back in.
