This is a 26 year old Lagavulin single malt in a 70cl bottle, released as part of Diageo's 2021 Special Releases. The label shows a lion, in keeping with that year's 'Legends Untold' theme.
It was fully matured in first-fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry-seasoned casks, which gives powerful peat alongside a bold sherried character.
The nose brings dried fruit, pungent smoke, cured meats and a touch of varnish. On the palate there are sweet toffee and Jamaica cake, wood fires, coal dust and firm tannins. The finish is thick with salted caramel and cigar ash.
