Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at 48% ABV in a 75cl bottle.
It was released in 2016 to mark the 200th anniversary of the distillery's founding by John Johnston in 1816. The choice of eight years looks back to Alfred Barnard, who tried an eight-year-old from the distillery in the 1880s and called it 'exceptionally fine'.
Light gold in colour, it has a soft, fresh nose with faint milk chocolate and lemon, then tea-scented smoke and maritime aromas. The palate is big and charred, with mint and dark chocolate. The finish is long and smoky, with minted smoke and chocolate tannins.
