Lagavulin – Distillers Edition (70cl, 43%)

Lagavulin Distillers Edition is an Islay single malt matured first in refill American oak casks, then finished in Pedro Ximénez sherry-seasoned casks. It is bottled at 43% and comes in a 70cl bottle. The second maturation adds dark fruit, raisin and fig to Lagavulin's peat smoke and maritime character. Tasting notes describe a nose of peat smoke and briny iodine over raisins, figs and dates, with vanilla and espresso. The palate is viscous, with dark chocolate, treacle, a little sea salt, spiced fruitcake and a hint of medicinal peat. The finish is very long and warming, with sweet smoke, dark fruit and spice.
