Laphroaig – 1960 40 Years Old Single Islay Malt (70cl, 42.4%)

A 40 year old Islay single malt from Laphroaig, distilled in 1960 and bottled by the distillery in 2001 at 42.4% in a 70cl bottle. It is the oldest official Laphroaig bottling. The worldwide release carried the age statement alone. Only 300 bottles were labelled with the 1960 vintage. The nose is delicate, with marzipan, beeswax, hessian, old books and mint tea above a faint, soft peat. On the palate come bitter orange, angelica, a little mint and elegant coastal peat. The finish is of medium length, with citron, orange, crème de menthe and aniseed.
