Laphroaig 33 Year Old is the first release in Strong Characters, a series honouring the people behind the distillery's history. Chapter 1 pays tribute to Donald Johnston, the elder of the two brothers who founded Laphroaig in 1815. The bottle carries illustrations by British artist Bill Bragg.
The whisky spent 33 years maturing in American oak ex-bourbon casks and European oak sherry-seasoned hogsheads.
The nose is described as stewed fruit and smooth vanilla crème brûlée. On the palate, the smoky character leads into savoury cured meat, and the finish brings warm, festive spice from the sherry casks.
