Lochlea – Cask Strength Batch 1 (70cl, 60.1%)

Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 is a single malt from the Lochlea distillery in Ayrshire, which opened in 2018 on the farm where Robert Burns once lived and worked. The barley is grown on the distillery's own land, and the spirit is double distilled in copper pot stills. It was matured in first-fill Bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks, then bottled at its natural cask strength of 60.1% without chill filtration, in a 70cl bottle. The nose brings honeycomb, baked apple and vanilla custard, with toasted oak and warming spices. The palate has butterscotch, poached pears, ginger biscuits and dark chocolate, and the finish is long, with sweet spices, dried fruit and gentle oak tannins.
