Lustau San Emilio Pedro Ximénez Solera Reserva

San Emilio is a sweet Pedro Ximénez sherry from Lustau, part of its Solera Familiar collection and made from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, typically sun-dried to concentrate their sugars. It is aged oxidatively, without flor, in American oak using a solera and criaderas system, which blends wines of different ages. It is non-vintage and deep mahogany in colour. The nose is dark and deep, with raisins, figs, blackstrap molasses, black cherry and caramel, over toffee, espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of leather and tobacco. The palate is rich and viscous, with dried figs, prune, sticky toffee and nut praline, kept in balance by raisined acidity and an oak backbone. The finish is long, fading to dried fruit and dark chocolate with a touch of burnt orange.
