Macallan – 12 Year Old Sherry Oak (40%)

This is Macallan 12 Years Old Sherry Oak, a Speyside single malt bottled at 40%. It was matured in sherry casks made from American and European oak, which give it a distinctly European profile. The colour is deep and dark, and the whisky leans towards dried fruit and spice. The nose is sweet and crisp, with sultanas, apple blossom, a touch of sherry, tropical fruit, golden syrup, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate is medium-bodied and firm, with warm pastry, marmalade, sultanas and barley sugar sweetness, then oak, vanilla and toasted caramel. The finish is long and warm, with sweet sherry and a hint of spice.
