A Macallan Gran Reserva from the 1979 vintage, bottled in 1997 at 18 years old. It matured in sherry oak casks and comes at 40% in a 70cl bottle, from a release of 2,000 bottles. The Gran Reserva series first appeared in the 1990s.
The nose is full of heavy sherry, with orange, raisins and dates, dark chocolate, vanilla, honey and cinnamon. On the palate it is rich and complex yet velvety, with spicy oak, toffee, orange and mandarin. The finish is very long and soft, fruity with orange, mandarin, cocoa and toffee, and plenty of sherry throughout.
