A single cask Mars Komagatake, marked 02 Oshi-Dashi in the Sumo Series. The heavily peated malt (50 ppm) was distilled in 2018 at Komagatake in the Japanese Alps and matured for six years in a bourbon barrel at Mars Tsunuki in Kagoshima. It was bottled in 2025 at 61.5% in a 70cl bottle, one of 181 bottles from the cask. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose is led by strong smoke and peat, with candied lemon, pear, a touch of bourbon vanilla and almond milk. On the palate, banana and pineapple meet sweet malt and a flan-like sweetness, with the peat stepping back. The finish is fresh and precise, balancing smoke and fruit with a hint of vanilla and salty sea breeze.
