Masahiro 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Pure Malt Whisky (70cl, 43%)

This is a 12 year old pure malt from Masahiro Distillery in Okinawa, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It is made from malted barley selected from regions around the world. The whisky spent at least 11 years in American oak ex-bourbon hogshead casks, then 12 months in first-fill oloroso sherry casks before bottling. The distillery points to Okinawa's subtropical climate as the reason the spirit takes flavour from the oak more quickly, and traces its history back to 1883. The nose offers ripe citrus, dried apricot, jammy plum, nuts and honey. Juicy fruit on the palate gives way to candied fruit, malt syrup, almonds and toasty bread, and the finish is nutty, with hazelnut, walnut and cashew.
