Masahiro Distillery – 12 Year Old Oloroso Sherry Cask Pure Malt Whisky (70cl, 43%)

This is a 12 year old malt whisky from Masahiro Distillery in Okinawa, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It was distilled from malted barley sourced from several regions around the world. It spent at least 11 years in American oak ex-bourbon hogsheads, then 12 months in first-fill oloroso sherry casks. The distillery points to Okinawa's subtropical climate as the reason the oak works faster there. The nose offers ripe citrus, dried apricot, jammy plum, nuts and honey. The palate runs from juicy fruit to candied fruit, malt syrup, almonds and toasty bread. The finish is oaky and nutty, with hazelnut, walnut and cashew.
