Michter's – Barrel Strength Sour Mash (75cl, 55.8%)

Michter's Barrel Strength Sour Mash is a Kentucky sour mash whiskey bottled straight from the cask at 55.75%, without the addition of water, in a 75cl bottle. It sits outside both the bourbon and rye categories, as its grain ratios fall below the 51% threshold for either. The mash is corn, rye and malted barley, and the whiskey goes into new toasted, charred American white oak barrels at 103 proof. It is made in Louisville. The nose brings buttery crackers, multigrain and tart red fruit with lemon zest. The palate has cherry, plum and powdered cocoa, with cinnamon, nutmeg and pie crust, ending in caramel and praline. The finish is long and warming, with sweet spice and oak.
