Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel is a small batch Kentucky bourbon, bottled at 45.7% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It starts as Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon, made from 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley and matured in charred new American oak.
It is then moved into a second, custom-made barrel built from wood air-dried for 18 months and toasted but not charred.
The nose is caramel and vanilla, toasted marshmallow, baked bread, honey, cinnamon and clove. The palate brings butterscotch, toasted oak, pecan and candied fruit with a hint of campfire smoke. The finish is long and warming, with oak, vanilla, sweet smoke and baked pear.
