Michter's US 1 Small Batch Sour Mash Whiskey Toasted Barrel is an American whiskey bottled at 43% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It starts as the distillery's sour mash whiskey, then moves into a second custom-made barrel for finishing.
That barrel is built from wood air-dried for 18 months and toasted but never charred. The mashbill of corn, rye and malted barley keeps any one grain under 50%, so it is a sour mash whiskey rather than a bourbon.
The nose is butterscotch, honeyed vanilla, nutmeg and apricot. On the palate come toffee, butter pecan, dried cherry and baked apple. The finish is medium-long, with honey, vanilla and citrus peel.
