A Kentucky sour mash whiskey made by Michter's, bottled at 45.6% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It is an annual release and carries no age statement.
The whiskey first matures in charred American oak, then is finished in toasted Vosges French oak barrels that were air-dried for 24 months and never charred. The name pays tribute to John Shenk, whose Pennsylvania distillery dates to the 1750s.
Brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, nutmeg and fresh citrus mark the nose. The palate brings caramel, crème brûlée, dark cherry and clove over rye spice. The finish is long and smooth, with cinnamon, soft oak and caramelised sugar.
