Michter's US*1 Original Sour Mash is a Kentucky whiskey, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It follows a pre-Prohibition style and is labelled as sour mash rather than bourbon or rye.
A portion of previously fermented mash starts each new batch. The whiskey is aged in fire-charred American oak barrels and bottled in small batches.
The nose is toasted cinnamon, stone fruit and caramelised sugar. The palate is rich and rounded, with toffee, baked apple, roasted nuts, delicate oak and a little rye heat, in a soft, almost creamy texture. The finish is medium to long and warming, with subtle spice, dried orange peel and brown butter.
