Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye is a single barrel rye whiskey from Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery in Louisville, Kentucky, bottled at 42.4% ABV. The rye grain is sheared before fermentation, which exposes more of its surface to the liquid and draws out more flavour. Michter's traces its roots to Shenk's Distillery in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, which began as a rye distillery in 1753. The nose is typically described as rye spice, dried fruit and herbs. The palate brings pepper and spice, and the finish is long and spicy.
