This is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery in Louisville, finished in a second barrel. It starts as fully matured Michter's US*1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon and is then moved into a barrel made from wood air-dried for 18 months, toasted but not charred.
The toasting adds a layer of wood sweetness, caramelised grain character and vanilla that the standard US*1 Bourbon does not have. It is a limited release.
The nose shows caramel and grain spice with added toasted-wood sweetness and vanilla. The palate is rich, with caramelised grain sweetness and more vanilla, and the finish is long.
