Michter's US-1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is a Kentucky straight rye from Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery in Louisville, bottled at 55.2% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It begins as US*1 Kentucky Straight Rye at barrel strength, then spends an additional period in a second custom barrel. The wood for that barrel was air-dried for 24 months and toasted to Michter's specifications, the outcome of years of research into barrel finishes for rye. The nose combines rye spice, pepper and grain with toasted wood sweetness and vanilla. The palate is powerful, with rye spice alongside caramelised sweetness, and the finish is long, carried by spice and toasted wood.
