Midleton – Very Rare Sweet Chestnut Edition

Midleton Very Rare Sweet Chestnut Edition is an Irish pot still whiskey finished in hogshead casks made from Irish sweet chestnut. It is a world first for Irish whiskey, with the wood sourced from the Cappoquin Estate on the banks of the Munster Blackwater in County Waterford. The finish gives a sweet character, with layers of caramel and earthy wood notes. The nose has honey-drizzled red apple, caramelised orange peel, melted chocolate and toffee fudge, with nutmeg, cinnamon and sandalwood. On the palate, orchard fruit and citrus lead to vanilla, chocolate shavings and soft wood tannins, then building pepper and a mild prickle of chilli oil. The finish is long, ending on pot still spices and chestnut wood.
