Midnight Moon Carolina Moonshine is an unaged corn spirit made at Piedmont Distillers in Madison, North Carolina. It comes in a 750ml bottle at 50% ABV (100 proof).
The recipe comes from Junior Johnson, the NASCAR driver whose family ran moonshine through the Carolina hills. The mash is built on corn and barley, and the spirit is distilled three times in copper pot stills in small batches.
The nose has roasted hazelnut, white chocolate and a hint of coffee bean. The palate is clean and grainy, then peppery with a slight malty sweetness. The finish is medium, with sea salt and powdered sugar.
