Nikka Miyagikyo Single Malt

This is a single malt from Nikka's Miyagikyo Distillery, which Masataka Taketsuru founded in a valley in Miyagi prefecture and which began operating in 1969. It is made from light peated and non-peated malted barley and distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam. Miyagikyo malts are described as elegant and fruity, with a delicate mouthfeel. The nose is rich, with iris, malted barley, banana, liquorice and camphor, then burnt wood, ash, white flowers and beeswax. The palate is firm and lively, with malted barley, ginger, cinnamon and chocolate. The finish is long and soft, with lemon, grapefruit, tobacco and lychee.
