Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old is a Japanese single malt, bottled at 45% in a 70cl bottle. It is a vatting of malt whiskies distilled and aged for at least 10 years in oak casks.
Methods include direct charcoal toasting, which Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru brought back after a visit to Scotland. The whisky returned after a seven-year break caused by short stocks of older malt.
The nose is fresh and herbal, with dried fruit, ripe banana and malted grain, plus black pepper and peat smoke. The palate is crisp and smooth, with custard, smoky oak and a touch of peat, leading to a long, warm, spicy and woody finish.
