Nulu Reserve Toasted Barrel Rye is a rye whiskey finished in toasted, uncharred barrels and bottled at barrel proof, between about 57 and 58.6% depending on the batch, in a 750ml bottle. It is non-chill-filtered.
Prohibition Craft Spirits of Louisville, Kentucky selects barrels of 95% rye distilled at MGP in Indiana. The whiskey then spends roughly one to four weeks in the toasted barrels.
Tangerine, marshmallow, buttery caramel, spiced tea and molasses open the nose. The palate brings hot cinnamon and maple syrup, then clove, allspice and caraway in a dense, viscous body. The finish is extended, with caramel, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate and nutmeg.
