Ole Smoky – Charred Moonshine (50cl, 51.5%)

Charred Moonshine is a 51.5% corn spirit from Ole Smoky in Tennessee, bottled in a 500ml mason jar. Its inspiration is the illegal backwoods distilleries of Appalachia. The spirit spends a short time in carbonised oak blocks, which gives it a character close to bourbon, with a little more punch and a smoky edge from the charred wood. The nose is sweet corn, charcoal, caramel and light smoke. On the palate come warm vanilla, toasted wood, brown sugar and earthy notes. The finish is firm and slightly smoky, with a sweet touch of corn whiskey.
