Papa's Pilar Dark Rum is a molasses-based dark rum from Papa's Pilar Rum Co., blended from rums sourced across the Caribbean, Central and South America. It is solera-blended, with some component rums aged up to around 24 years, and finished in American oak bourbon barrels plus Port and Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 750 ml bottle, it is intended as a sipping rum with an oak-forward, whiskey-like profile. On the nose there are maple syrup, dark chocolate, orange peel and toasted oak with hints of coffee. The palate is rich and sweet, with fig, caramel, molasses, baking spice, vanilla and cocoa. The finish is long and warming, with lingering chocolate, oak and subtle spice.
