A 20 year old wheated Kentucky straight bourbon, made at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort and bottled at 45.2% ABV. It is named after Julian P. Van Winkle Sr., known as Pappy.
Wheat replaces rye in the mash bill, which gives a rounder, softer profile alongside two decades in oak. The Van Winkle family compares it to a fine after-dinner cognac.
The nose is caramel, vanilla, dried fruit and seasoned oak. The palate brings toffee, dark chocolate, baking spice and polished oak, and the finish is very long and warm.
