Pappy Van Winkle's Family Reserve 23 Years Old is a Kentucky straight wheated bourbon, bottled at 47.8% ABV (95.6 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It was made at the Buffalo Trace Distillery using the Van Winkle family's wheated recipe, and is a tribute to Julian 'Pappy' Van Winkle.
The barrels were aged for 23 years and selected from the heart of the warehouse.
The nose is caramel and cream with soft oak, nuts and leather. The palate is sweet, with vanilla, maple and honey, citrus and spice, and hints of ripe apple, cherry, oak, tobacco and a touch of chocolate. The finish is long and oaky, ending on sweet caramel.
